To be called a CEO is easy.
November 26, 2025Many of us eventually find ourselves at a painful crossroads:
Do we keep pursuing the passion that lights us up but doesn’t pay the bills or do we stay in a job that drains the life out of us simply because it provides stability?
It’s a tough place to be especially when your passion has brought you joy and fulfilment for years but not enough income to sustain you. Tougher still when savings run low, responsibilities grow heavier and you begin to feel stuck while everyone else seems to be making progress.
So what do you do when your passion won’t pay, even though you’ve poured your heart into it?
Here are five practical pathways to turn purpose into profit:
1. Seek Knowledge
“My people perish for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6)
Ignorance can be expensive. Sometimes your passion isn’t paying not because it lacks potential but because you lack the business, technical or industry knowledge to turn it into a viable venture.
Don’t just love the craft learn the craft and the business behind it.
2. Seek Mentorship
There is always someone who has succeeded at what you’re trying to do. Humble yourself and learn from them. Sometimes you may need to serve, volunteer or provide value first but the insights, direction and shortcuts you gain can save you years of struggle.
3. Seek Help
“Ask and you shall receive” applies to life as much as faith.
Be clear, bold and honest about the help you need. There’s no shame in reaching out. Whether it’s advice, resources, referrals or emotional support; ask and keep asking until you get the guidance that moves you forward.
4. Seek Stakeholders
Your passion may be yours but others may see the value in supporting it. There are investors, partners, donors, customers, sponsors and collaborators who can fund, amplify or resource what you’re trying to build. Go find them. Pitch your ideas, present your vision and invite them into the journey.
5. Seek Clients
Passion pays only when it solves a problem, meets a need or delivers value to someone willing to pay for it. The goal is for you not to be the only one excited about your gift but to make others excited enough to invest in it. Focus on those who can afford your service and use that revenue to serve the people who cannot.
Passion is powerful but passion alone isn’t enough.
Equip it, package it, price it and position it and you’ll begin to see it pay.
Don’t give up… it’s not over for you yet!!! DM if you want to talk to someone or need coaching.
